Disco Draws

About the app

What is Disco Draws?

A drawing toy for phones and tablets. Each disc hides a drawing: kids spin the disc, color the openings for each number and, when they lift the disc, discover what they drew. 100 drawings in 10 worlds, on screen or on real paper.

What ages is it for?

Ages 3 and up. At setup, a grown-up enters the child's age, whether they read and what they'll practice (writing, fine motor skills or creativity, plus English in the Portuguese version). The app then adjusts the writing help, the voice that reads instructions and the style of Disco's drawings. The trail starts easy for everyone and grows little by little.

Does my child need to read?

No. Colors and numbers guide the game, and Disco reads the instructions out loud. For kids who don't read yet, narration is already on; change it in Parents area › Game › Voice narration.

Which devices does it run on?

iPhone and iPad with iOS 17 or later, and Android phones and tablets with Android 7.0 or later. On iPad, kids can color with Apple Pencil and play in portrait or landscape.

When will the app be available?

Soon, on the App Store and Google Play. The links will show up here as soon as it is published.

Are there ads? Do I need an account?

No and no. Disco Draws has no ads, sign-up or login.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Only Disco drawings (made by artificial intelligence) and purchases need the internet.

What language is the app in?

American English and Brazilian Portuguese. The app opens in Portuguese on a device set to Portuguese and in English on any other, and a grown-up can switch it in Parents area › Device › App language. In English, the text, narration and writing are all in English. In Portuguese, a grown-up can turn on English too (Área dos pais › Aprender › Português e inglês), so drawing names and narration also come in English, and kids can write the word in English.

Can more than one child use the same device?

Yes. Each child has their own profile, with their own trail, album and fridge. The Full Plan covers every child on the device.

The game

How does "On paper" mode work?

Prop the phone on a cup or a stack of books, about 30 cm (12 in) above a white sheet, with the back camera facing down. The screen shows the disc over the sheet: line it up with two fingers and tap Lock. Kids trace the current openings with a marker and, when the camera sees the number traced, the disc turns to the next one by itself (you can also move on with the button). At the end, the drawing is on the paper.

What do I need to play on paper?

A white sheet, a dark marker, good light and something to hold the phone steady. A small mark on the sheet under the red arrow helps line the disc up again if something moves. Ask a grown-up to set the phone up over the sheet.

What are the worlds and phases?

The trail has 10 worlds in 4 phases: Animals, Home and garden, Under the sea, Jobs, Transport, Dinosaurs, Brazilian folklore, Around Brazil, Sports and music, and Tech and games. Everyone starts with Animals, on 4-number discs, and discs grow up to 12 numbers.

How does writing work?

After discovering the drawing, kids can write its name, on screen or on paper. There are 3 levels of help: just the first letter, the word with the path of each letter, or the word with no path. The level comes from the child's age, and a grown-up can change it in Parents area › Learn.

And a second language?

In the Portuguese version, English is optional: with it on, each drawing also has its English name, with audio, and kids can write the word in English while hearing each letter's name. The English version has no second language.

What is the Studio?

It's where kids make their own discs: drawing with a finger, photographing a drawing made on paper or asking Disco for a drawing. Created discs stay on the device and any child at home can play them.

What is the weekly surprise?

A special drawing that appears every week, outside the trail. It doesn't count toward the free plan's limit.

Ask Disco (artificial intelligence)

What is Ask Disco?

A feature that uses artificial intelligence: kids type or pick an idea, like "a cat with glasses", and get a line drawing that becomes a disc.

Is it safe for kids?

It works only after a grown-up turns it on, through the grown-up check, and it can be turned off anytime in Parents area › Learn › Ask Disco (AI). At every age, Disco refuses weapons (toy and pretend ones too), fights, scary things, blood, death, adult content, drugs, bad words, brands and famous people, and every drawing goes through a filter before it appears. Before sending, the app also refuses requests with personal data such as names, addresses, schools and contact details, and the server checks again. In the United States, kids under 13 only choose from the app's ideas; typing a request is for a grown-up, after the grown-up check.

What is sent, and to whom?

The request text (and which idea was picked, or whether a grown-up typed it), the drawing's age band, the child's age band and the app language, with a random device number that counts the drawings. It goes to the Disco Draws server and, from there, to OpenAI, which receives only the text, with no identifier. The server uses the country of the request, which Cloudflare infers from the IP address, only to apply the United States rule. We don't keep the request text, the drawings or the country. Details are in the privacy policy.

How many Disco drawings can I make?

10 to try, on each device. With the Full Plan, 50 a month. There are also packs of 20 or 50 drawings that never expire.

Plans and purchases

What is free?

Downloading and playing: 5 new drawings a day for each child, with the trail in order, and 10 Disco drawings to try. Replays, crowns, painting, writing, letters, the Studio and the weekly surprise have no limit.

What does the Full Plan include?

Unlimited new drawings every day, every world in any order, a new special trail every month and 50 Disco drawings a month. It's monthly or yearly, with a 7-day free trial, and covers every child on the device.

How does the 7-day trial work?

On your first subscription, the first 7 days are free. Cancel before the trial ends and nothing is charged (on the App Store, cancel at least 24 hours before). During the trial, Disco drawings use the 10 drawings to try.

How do I cancel the subscription?

On iPhone or iPad: Settings › your name › Subscriptions › Disco Draws, at least 24 hours before the end of the period. On Android: Google Play app › Payments and subscriptions › Subscriptions › Disco Draws. On both, also from Parents area › Device › Manage subscription. The plan stays on until the end of the period already paid.

How do I restore a purchase?

In Parents area › Device › Restore purchases, with the same account used to buy (Apple on iPhone and iPad; Google on Android).

How do I block purchases?

In Parents area › Device › Block purchases. Screen Time on iPhone and iPad, and Family Link and Google Play purchase authentication on Android, also block purchases in every app.

Can I get a refund?

Payments go through Apple or Google, and so do refunds: on the App Store, at reportaproblem.apple.com; on Google Play, from your account's order history. Your consumer rights still apply.

Privacy and data

What data does the app collect?

Almost nothing leaves the device. Only these do: the text of Disco drawing requests (after a grown-up turns the feature on), purchase numbers, a random device number that counts Disco drawings and, only if a grown-up agrees, anonymous usage statistics. It's all in the privacy policy.

Where are drawings and photos kept?

On the device itself (and in its backup, if enabled). We have no access to them. The camera image is never sent.

How do I delete data?

To delete a profile: Parents area › Child › Delete this profile. To delete everything on the device, delete the app. For data on our server, write to contato@discodraws.com with the code shown in Parents area › Device › About and privacy.

I forgot the parent code. What now?

Tap "Forgot the code". The app asks for Face ID, Touch ID or the device passcode (or, without them, the multiplication question) and lets you create a new code.

Common problems

The camera won't open.

On paper mode and Use photo need camera permission. On iPhone and iPad: Settings › Disco Draws › Camera. On Android: Settings › Apps › Disco Draws › Permissions › Camera.

The disc moved on the sheet.

If the phone moves, the app warns you. Line the disc up again using the mark under the red arrow and tap Lock.

I changed devices. Does progress come along?

Progress stays on the device and moves to a new one through iCloud backup (iPhone and iPad) or Google backup (Android), if backup is on.
